Fesch Museum

Fesch Museum

Did you know that the largest collection of Italian paintings in France, after the Louvre, was in Ajaccio? It is located in the Palais Fesch, named after Joseph Fesch, Napoleon’s maternal uncle, who bequeathed his collection of paintings to the city.
You can also discover the gallery dedicated to Corsican painters, without forgetting the Imperial Chapel.

Bonaparte House

Bonaparte House

Ajaccio was the birthplace of the man who would become the emperor of the French: Napoleon Bonaparte. The house where he was born, the Maison Bonaparte, has become a national museum. Nestled in the heart of the old town, this building is dedicated to the Bonaparte family (furniture, paintings and period decorations).
It regularly hosts temporary exhibitions.

The Citadel

The Citadel

Located in the heart of Ajaccio, the Citadelle Miollis, whose first stone was laid in 1492 and which has not ceased to be transformed until today, was occupied until recently by the State’s military services.

Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption

Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption

Located in the old city, the cathedral was completed in 1593. The building is typical of the Counter-Reformation architecture. Built on a Latin cross plan, its transept crossing is lit by a dome.
Inside, the cathedral is remarkable for its high altar offered in 1811 by Elisa, Napoleon’s sister.
