La Poudrière - Scalu Tower
The powder magazine known as the Tour du Scalu, located on today’s Place de la Mairie and restored in 2012, was built in the 17th century as the Tour des Fabiani. It was once a salt warehouse, then a powder magazine and finally a prison.
Here we are at the quiet southern edge of the Agriates Desert. The N1197 road brings its stream of bathers to the Ostriconi beach at the end of the cove.

Church of Mercy
Commonly known as the “Monks’ Church”, it was built between 1825 and 1850 by Tony Cardella, a great Corsican master of the 19th century. Inside are paintings by the master, including the “Way of the Cross”.

L'Isula Grande round tower bay
In the early 16th century, this military structure was equipped with a round tower to prevent attacks by Barbary pirates. It was refurbished in the early 1980s.

Place Paoli
Created in 1834 and inaugurated in 1852, this square is the heart of the city. Pleasant and welcoming, it’s surrounded by century-old plane trees, a fountain called “la pompe” and statues including a bust of the city’s founder, Pasquale de Paoli.
